The tools are not intended to all be used at once. If you have a seasonal / split calving herd, specific tools are best used at specific times throughout the year to look at past and present performance and likely future outcomes. Here is an example. Advisers who have completed the InCalf Adviser Training Course have been trained to use these tools in paper form and as simple PC programs. For a list of InCalf-trained advisers go to InCalf advisers. To ensure you get the most from the InCalf herd assessment pack tools get involved in an InCalf Farmer Action Group program. InCalf body condition tool for the Palm®An InCalf Body condition recording tool for the Palm® handheld device is also available. The tool provides an alternative to recording body condition scores on paper using the InCalf Body condition score tally sheet, which is included in the Body condition at calving and Body condition loss tools. (It is recommended that you use Palm® Tungsten models or above to run this tool because the images require a high resolution screen). Individual cow body condition score monitor sheetIf you wish to record individual cow ID’s when you body condition score, use the Individual Cow Body Condition Score Monitor sheet if you have a seasonal or split calving herd or the Body Condition Score Monitor Sheet if you have a year-round calving herd, instead of the InCalf Body Condition Score Tally Sheet. Note – InCalf is working with farmers and their advisers to continually develop the Herd assessment pack of tools. The current version is Version 1.6.
